Check out the TONS of examples at www.opengl.org, click on the
developer or source code links, you will find lots of examples.
As for your specific problem, if you have multi-mon enabled
in that system, then opengl is forced to use software acceleration.
And yes, the timer resolution sucks, so people do not even bother with
it anymore. I know I have seen some updated code for screen savers,
and I am pretty sure I saw the link at the opengl.org site.
